Summer Lecture Series: "Consider This" by Dr Sophia Errey, beginning February 14, 2013
Langford 120 offers a series of four lecture/ discussion evenings focussing on recent publications by de Duve, Krauss and Foster and probing critical issues for art today, led by Dr Sophia Errey.
Topics will include
Post Formalism and Materiality
At the College Art Association Conference in February 2013 Karen Schiff will present a paper titled “Consideration as an alternative to critique”. Why are current debates seeking to re-explore the roles of form and material as critical factors in art making?
Intentionality
Some postmodernist theory rejected considerations of the artist’s intentions as irrelevant or at best unimportant to an understanding of the work. However, this position has recently been reconsidered. How do we evaluate intention? Is it important, or not?
Online culture and art
Digital reproduction, blogs, gallery and artist websites, iPad catalogues…What are the benefits and drawbacks of current electronic communication devices for art?
Issues of conservation, reproduction and access
“Re made” works, restoration which involves substantial supplementation, curatorial decision making around conservation and display – how do these both reflect and impact on current art?
Dates:
Thursdays: Feb 14, 21, 28 March 7, 6.30 - 7.45 pm
Cost $25 per lecture or $80 for 4.
